Board of Directors ~
Mike Herron, PhD., SVP Leadership Development Executive Global HR Bank of America
Mike has a 20-year track record in the leadership and organization development field. He is currently a Senior Vice President of Leadership Development in the Global Commercial Banking business of Bank of America where he drives enterprise-wide people processes and consults with his clients to help them best manage their talent.
What Mike relishes the most in his work are intractably complex problems that can only be solved with a creative approach. In short, he likes the role of “fixer.” Predictably, he has a progressive point of view on human resources and works with his clients to best align the HR function so that it demonstrably supports the strategy and objectives of the business.
Before Bank of America, Mike was a General Manager with an international consulting firm, PDI Ninth House. For 14 years he consulted with numerous global clients across a variety of industries such as telecommunications, grocery and retail, high tech, and aerospace. He also worked for five years as a very small cog in a very large company, Hughes Aircraft, an invaluable experience that he does not care to repeat.
Although he is an HR professional, Mike has a great deal of affinity for the line, the actual business of his clients. He led a territory team for nine years, where he was responsible for managing a P&L and hitting sales goals. The experience of running a part of a business, along with his early upbringing in several family-owned businesses, shaped his consulting approach: he always focuses on what the business wants to accomplish first. Engaging, guiding, and developing teams were other critical components of the job and he has led three successful team turnarounds so far in his career.
Mike’s interest in the HR field started with a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and a Master’s and Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology.
