Transparency: How Leaders Create a Culture of Candor with James O'Toole (a Voices of Experience event) 


Professor O'Toole discussed how corporate leaders deal with the issue of information flow in light of Sarbanes-Oxley and in an era of blogs and instant communication. He offered practical examples of why transparency is inevitable today and why it should be embraced rather than feared. It turns out that a free flow of information is not only good ethics it is also good management with positive implications for the bottom line. RMHRPS Members were invited to stay for a Members Only event with James following his program.

Sustainability: How Good Corporate Citizenship and Going Green Translate into Employee Attraction, Engagement and Retention with Bud Ahearn, CH2M HILL and David Westerlund, Ball Corporation
In the "War for Talent," Sustainability can be your new differentiator. What do we mean by Sustainability? It includes new approaches to leadership development, corporate practices that are environmentally friendly and organizational use of "green" products, just to name a few. Bud Ahearn, Senior Vice President at CH2M HILL, and Dave Westerlund, Executive Vice President, Administration & Corporate Secretary at Ball Corporation discussed how CH2M HILL and Ball Corporation are using sustainable practices to attract, engage and retain employees.

Linking Business Growth to HR Practices: with Mark Huselid, HR Professor at Rutgers University and CEO Panel including: Rob Katz, Vail Resorts, Kevin Ruddy, Noodles, Colleen Abdullah, WOW
A wealth of recent evidence underscores the strategic advantage gained from managing employees well.  Across many industries and countries, high commitment management systems are associated with higher organizational performance.  Much of this evidence has been produced by Mark Huselid, Professor of HR Strategy in the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) at Rutgers University.  In this presentation, Dr. Huselid shared his thoughts on the role of the workforce as a potential source of competitive advantage.  Dr. Huselid's remarks were followed by a panel of distinguished Denver area CEOs who discussed the role that human resource management has played in the success of their firms.

Get and keep the right people in turbulent times: Best and new practices with Laury Sejen and Brian E. Wilkerson from Watson Wyatt
This program covered two new and timely pieces of research to help companies understand what really works and where they should focus their resources. The first was the very latest global study on attraction and retention from Watson Wyatt and World at Work, which incorporates the latest practices from top global companies.  The second is an in-depth study recently conducted by Watson Wyatt of more than 250 top companies and the practices that have actually impacted their attraction and retention.

Sustainable Business Development in the Environment with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Robert Kennedy Jr. discussed the role that natural resources play in our work, our health, and our identity as Americans. A passionate environmental speaker, he reminded us that we have a responsibility to protect and preserve our planet for future generations. Kennedy also offered advice on how businesses can utilize sound environmental policies and procedures. By adopting smart, green business practices, companies will grow, save money, and help to preserve the environment for the future
